This is an elegantly printed, handy volume to cherish--to be seen with in public. There is none--was none--like Bryon; he strummed all the right lyrical cords of the hearts of men and women. A man of his time--faults and all--but who used the literary art to rise above the common lot of aristocrats. Verse 178 of Canto IV is exerpted too much: "There is a pleasure in the pathless woods/There is a rapture on the lonely shore"; it is sublime, but it's better to come at these last stanzas from the beginning of Canto I in order to feel Byron's craft and the development of his soul and style over time. Without further ado, read on . . . and on.Product details

Childe Harold Pilgrimage Baron George Gordon Byron Byron George Gordon N Byron 9781145337206 Books Reviews
To Europe beginning during the Napoleonic Wars, visited through a subjectivity that is part of the tour. Time travel. "Nature" is not sentimental Gaia but an objective yardstick from which equality, liberty and the complications of human nature begin. The first person shooter experience here is better at bringing the time to life than anything from a history book. Highly recommended in its entirety for anyone who wants to see the period from the inside, through the eyes of an exhilarating intelligence.
This version is in the public domain --free-- which I like. You can pay for others that look good too. Just read this with a Fire, you can touch the names of people and things referred to or described and through the magic of wi-fi see portraits, pictures, Wikipedia entrees and really have a great time.
Read this in 3rd Grade and probably once every few years, still a great book. Beautifully written masterpiece. Must read!
If I could improve this edition, it would be to add an active TOC. Aside from this what more can be said. Byron, the Jim Morrison of the 19th century still fascinates present day readers, although I feel more for speculation about his personal life, than his poetry. Too bad. Reading his poetry should redirect our attention to his poetry. After all, in terms of sales this narcissist was the Harry Potter or Margaret Mitchell of his day.
It is the introduction of the Byronic hero, Romantic notion growing to fruition. It's classic, a presage to the modern age.
Byron is ironic funny and wise, despise his rather sulfurous reputation. His Don Juan is very clever indeed and deserves to be read more.
Low quality printing. It seems as though these are printed to order - the book has the date of purchase printed on the last page. Looks like the printing was done by a low quality printer and binder. I’m not a printing snob by any means, but I can’t stand to have this poor quality.
This is a very well presented version of the poet Byron's magnum opus, the autobiographical saga of the title namesake exploring the world. Each page contains one stanza of the epic poem, with notes on the same page below the text. This makes it very easy to read Byron, the commentary, or both.
